Lifecycles Objects

Lifecycles Objects

Photographs by Linda Brooks.

For nearly 40 years, Twin Cities educator, curator and photographer Linda Brooks has been collecting the objects and images of the last four generations of her maternal family, which immigrated to the U.S. in the early 20th century. This personal archive is the source of lifecycles objects, which documents utilitarian objects, garments and materials—many of them handmade—used by the women in the artist’s family since 1920. Brooks’ photos reveal her interest in the creation and materiality of these items, and the way they narrate a lived experience.
