Landmark is a meditation on the shifting spaces of memory and urban landscape— a collision of public space of cities with a more idiosyncratic personal geography of memory. For Landmark, Aschheim has created new sculptures for the Olson Gallery that expand her installation Camelot, which was originally a mash-up ghost city of familiar and imagined buildings that welcomed disoriented travelers to the Los Angeles International Airport (2015-16). The drawings and sculptures in Landmark explore the fragmentation and layering of geography and experience, as well as the process of making meaning, monument, and myth out of our lives in cities.
