Jim Dayton: Artist in His Studio

A close look at Jim Dayton’s professional career through his drawings, notes, and models, and then moves beyond his much-admired architectural work

The Minnetonka Center for the Arts is honored to present the exhibition, Jim Dayton: Artist in His Studio. This exhibit offers a close look at Jim Dayton’s professional career through his drawings, notes, and models, and then moves beyond his much-admired architectural work to honor is other artistic pursuits: his extensive notebooks, sketches, watercolors, and more.

Drawn from the archives of James Dayton Design, Ltd. as well as his personal studio, the show offers a chance to see the vast creative mind that was rarely at rest. Professionally, he was unique in the architectural world through his model building practice and numerous sketches. During his off-hours, he continued to create and explore through graphic design and branding projects, was an accomplished watercolor painter, and crafted exquisite fly-fishing flies.

Curated by Jim’s daughter, Emma, with support from the Dayton family and Patrick Regan. James Dayton Design, Ltd.
