Form and Influence

Form and Influence

An art exhibition featuring the work of Saint Paul artists Teresa Cox and Alexander Tylevich

Although their influences may differ, artists Teresa Cox and Alexander Tylevich share their artistic expression by flattening, fragmenting, and exaggerating form, line and color. In Form and Influence we’ll visit Cox’s world where surreal qualities are exploited through robust color, pattern and shape that suggest an unfolding mystery and theatrical otherworldly environments.

“This work is based on ephemera and memories collected while hiking in mountains, forests and gardens.”  – Teresa Cox

Amidst these dreamlike landscapes, Tylevich’s sculpted characters will pay homage to and comment on the 1920s avant-garde art movement founded in Vitebsk, Belarus by Marc Chagall and Kazimir Melvich. These pieces from his DIY Malevich series are constructed using a variety of materials including bronze, stainless steel, colored plastic, dichroic glass and painted wood. They often have movable, interchangeable parts.
