Devil’s in the Details

A Group exhibition featuring: Alex Kuno, Rudy Fig, Michael Thomsen & Nicholas Harper

About the Artists

Rudy Fig is an oil painter, sculptor and Blythe art enthusiast. With toy designers for parents, Rudy grew up in a very creative environment and excelled in the arts from a young age. She started professionally showing her saccharine paintings at the age of 17 in Minneapolis, MN and quickly began exhibiting her work across the US. Her lush oil paintings and other artwork feature a cosmic world of candy coated sanctuaries, magical garden tea parties, glittering galaxies, and psychological purging. Her work borrows heavily from historical fashion motifs and art movements. She is also inspired by nature, the Milky Way and technicolor baked goods.

Most of Rudy's works feature her signature, ultra feminine characters that are painted through a whimsical, and macabre lens of saturated pastels. As a traditional artist, Rudy works in oil paints, ceramics, illustration and sculpture. She also occasionally customizes Blythe and other types of dolls. For over a decade now, you can find Rudy's work alongside many established artists of the contemporary and lowbrow movement in galleries across the US and beyond as well as in the private collections of her loyal patrons around the globe.

Michael Thomsen is an award-winning assemblage sculptor, musician and filmmaker living in Minneapolis, MN. Thomsen’s approach to filmmaking closely reflects that of his visual artwork, a beautifully converged narrative of mysterious objects, mood and wonder. In his sculpture work, Thomsen combines woodworking techniques, painting, assemblage and electrical wiring with discovered artifacts from thrift stores, flea markets and more—items that hold a human imprint. Over the past 10 years, Thomsen’s work has been exhibited locally and nationally, most recently at Parlor Gallery in Asbury Park, NJ and Alexi Era Gallery in St. Louis, MO, plus a major solo exhibition at Public Functionary in Minneapolis in Fall 2015.

Alex Kuno is a full-time artist and illustrator living and working out of his studio in the Lowertown Arts District of Saint Paul, Minnesota. His ongoing series of apocalyptic, satirical fairy tale and anatomical illustrations are currently exhibited in galleries around the country and he maintains a growing list of collectors and commission clients around the world. His work has been featured on hi-fructose.comVice.com and Spain’s ElStilo Magazine, and is currently represented by Gallery360 in Minneapolis, MN and Curly Tale Fine Art Gallery in Chicago, IL. Inspired by Russian and Byzantine Iconographic traditions by way of style and intent, Nicholas Harper refers to his portraits as contemporary icons. Also heavily influenced by the literary genre of magical realism and such authors as Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Salmon Rushdie, Harper distorts the figure through a fantastical lens in the hopes of elevating the portrait to a transcendental state of symbol, allegory and metaphor. He has exhibited throughout the US, is highly collected both in the US and abroad and has appeared in numerous publications.
