A Culture of Pots: The 25th Anniversary of the St. Croix Valley Pottery Tour

An exhibition of fine pottery featuring 12 artists in the St. Croix River valley and many of the guests who have contributed to The St. Croix Valley Pottery Tour over the past 25 years.

Every May the Minnesota Potters of the Upper St. Croix Valley host a colossal ceramics event. The St. Croix Valley Pottery Tour brings in a plethora of ceramists, shoppers, and sightseers to peruse wares, visit studios, and enjoy the atmosphere of a spring celebration. 2017 marks the twenty-fifth anniversary year of this now beloved ritual.

In honor of this milestone, WAM presents the exhibition A Culture of Pots: The 25th Anniversary of the St. Croix Valley Pottery Tour. The exhibition features art by the twelve host potters along with works by the many guests who have contributed to the event over the past quarter of a century. The artworks displayed are highlights from twenty-five years of craftsmanship and human connection fostered by the St. Croix Valley Pottery Tour, an event built on interaction. This act of hospitality, that enlivens the tour and enacts these values, is markedly Minnesotan.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue and will include an essay on the history and impact of the tour by Twin Cities art and craft critic Pamela Espeland.
