Outsiders & Others Over… The Silver Lining

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

Outsiders & Others shut its doors two weeks ago. In talking to Yuri, it sounds as though many of you are a bit sad, but I don’t see it that way.

Yuri Arajs, will be using his much needed extra time to be working on his own work and of course a new project.

As a patron, I will miss Outsiders & Others, however, I am much more excited to see what Yuri does next. His vision for projects is expansive; he has a couple under wraps that I’m enthralled by. His optimism for what this city and it’s art scene is uplifting…even with that underlining sarcasm. I think the new venture Yuri is undertaking and the removal of the added responsibilities of surviving as a non-profit is only a positive for mpls.

the silver lining,
emma

we’ve been tagged

While you’re waiting for spring to catch on, take some time to visit the newly revamped street art section for a reminder of what makes Minneapolis interesting in our own way.

Much of what you’ll see has been buffed long ago…we’re scouring the streets for new uploads daily.

And of course, we’re always happy to hear your feedback so let us know if you’re liking the search function, what might not be working right or anything else you see fit. We’re thrilled with the new tricks available to us (like uploading pics from our phone cameras!).

Call for Artists…

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

the Ephemeral Space ladies are brewing up an evening of magic. a new exhibit is in the works and they’re looking for artists…

Ephemeral Space: Call 4 Art
Deadline: Monday, April 2, 2007

Ephemeral Space Gallery invites submissions for a juried, single-night exhibit. The term “ephemeral” refers to something that is short-lived, momentary, fleeting, or temporary. The exhibitors seek work that addresses, interrogates or questions ideas concerning ephemerality. Artists may deal with ephemeral content in their work or explore work using ephemeral media. This exhibition features two and three-dimensional work, and new media.

What defines or limits the ephemeral? Who determines its boundaries? Is a memory of an artwork more important than the work itself? How does documentation of ephemeral art influence one’s perception of it? How and when does ephemeral end?

The Jury:

Michael Gaughan
B.F.A Painting, Minneapolis College of Art and Design
M.Ed., University of Minnesota
Artist and Performer

Angela Strassheim
M.F.A., Yale University
Photographer

Diane Mullin
Ph.D., Art History, Washington University in St. Louis
Art Historian

Gallery Information:

Ephemeral Space is a floating gallery dedicated to fostering the development of all artists working in all art forms. ES strives to support both local and national artists and seeks to promote emerging and established artists.
