Design Within Reach had asked mplsart to hang work of our featured artists in their Minneapolis Studio this Spring! John Grider is hard at work on a custom stencil piece for the space and we’ve got new work from Jen Davis and Keegan Wenkman. The work will be rotating for three months, so come often.
There will not be an opening, however there is this very exciting event:
at
Thursday March 1st, 6-8 p.m
2939 Hennepin Avenue South, Mpls
Join the Minneapolis DWR Studio for an exclusive sneak peek at Blu Dot prototypes and products launching at this year’s International Contemporary Furniture Fair in NYC.
Shaker’s Vodka and airforce NUTRISODA will provide tasty cocktails and attendees will have a chance to talk with Blu Dot Founders and designers, John Christakos + Maurice Blanks. They will talk about the Blu Dot design process and be on hand to answer questions. Music provided by JayBoy and art by mplsart.

often asked question…why are the opening pics, for the most part, of people…where is the art?
so let me explain myself…my feeling is there is so much more to a work of art and an exhibit than a photograph can possibly convey. my quick shot cannot possibly show you the emotion in a brush stroke, the grandness of an extreme fighter, photographed perfectly…and displayed larger than life or the delicate nature of a taxidermy rabbit, miraculously breathing it’s last breath. i want you to attend the exhibits…be part of them…gasp, smile, giggle, cry, enjoy…and my photos can only show you so much.
so go…and look,
emma

The gents of “Will Work For Food” are very much working right now. They are prepping for an exhibit that will hang in Theater Antiques March 16-18. It will be 3 days of art, music, drink & bliss.
Check out their blog…see what their up to…and if you are able, lend them a helping hand (or just some well wishes).
Cheers!

Just received the following from Sean Tubridy:

Stop in to my studio tonight from 5-9 for first Thursdays in the Arts District, mention you’re from flickr and get a free, 4×6 signed and numbered Usual Suspects print, fresh off the Gocco machine.Others who stop in get the print free with any purchase – so you don’t even have to do that! Just say flickr! Well, I mean, don’t be a dick about it. Say hello or something, for crying out loud!Any purchase made in my online shop from here on out will get a fee print as well, while supplies last. Here are directions to my place if you have never been here. I’m in studio 272.
Also, my friend Karin (aka Superkarin) down the hall will have free letterpress Valentines from Lunalux and if you need a little poetic assistance, you can have it ghostwritten by writer Sarah Sawyer. She’ll even be having a Tarot reader to predict your impending breakup, uh, romance! Ooooh, spooky!
Sounds like a good time huh? Or you could just stay home and watch another CSI and eat Cheetos (laaaaame)!
Note: I may do a blue version. I’m low on green!
