Vanishing Ice

Vanishing Ice

Artists' perspectives on climate change and why ice matters

IC: Paul D. Miller (aka DJ Spooky), Manifesto for a People's Republic of Antarctica, 2011–12, archival inkjet print. Whatcom Museum, Gift of the artist.

Featuring forty-seven artworks created between 1860 and 2017, the show is organized around three geographical regions: Alpine, Arctic, and Antarctic. The artists representing each of these regions capture the unique features of their landscapes, as well as documenting the visible impact that climate change has produced.

Be the first to explore the icy landscapes of our world at WAM. View Chasing Ice, a documentary on global climate change and learn how your human contributions make an impact. Experience an ice block glacier installation, Melting Ice, by artist Jyoti Duwadi in front of the museum. Hear how explorers cross the Arctic with Dr. Aaron Doering and his team. See everything from the sleds they pull packed with all their necessities to survive for months to the tents they live in.
