Margery Amdur manipulates commercially produced “make-up” sponges formations, inspired by natural and architectural geometry.
Under Cover is a two gallery (Christensen Center & Gage Family Art Gallery) exhibition that displays the recent work of Margery Amdur and explores her creative process. Her "foam tapestries probe an array of paradoxes and questions about passages of time, gender, labor, urban renewal, and perspective within natural landscapes. Cosmetic sponges become building blocks to construct by hand 'poetic moments' that become densely layered and eventually monumental. In Under Cover, a new generation of work features cast porcelain components couched in select locations of each construction. The overall intensity of the work is amplified by this addition, as well as the integration of a range of unusual and and counterintuitive materials."
