The Power of Maya Women’s Artistry

The Power of Maya Women’s Artistry

Textile Center is pleased to announce The Power of Maya Women’s Artistry from Guatemala.

The Power of Maya Women's Artistry, in the Joan Mondale Gallery, will feature vibrant contemporary work by the textile artists of the Maya Women’s Rug Hooking Cooperative of Guatemala / Cooperative de Alfombras de Mujeres Maya en Guatemala. This program encourages Maya women to produce innovative textiles combining the art of rug hooking with design elements and colors inspired by motifs from traditional, hand-woven Maya clothing. The rugs symbolize innovation, artistic endeavor, and economic empowerment. Artist Yessika Calgua Morales will be in attendance from Guatemala.

This exhibition will be showing simultaneously with Natural Dye: Experiments and Realizations by Catharine Ellis, and Naturally: A Natural Dye Invitational of Regional Artists.
