About the Artist
Denver born artist, Scott Roper, is self taught working mainly in oils. He attended Rocky Mountain Art and Design and Metropolitan State University of Denver. Scott has exhibited his work for over 15 years, developing his classical style and iconography combined with contemporary aesthetics. His work expresses the dichotomy of humanities natural desires and technological invention or what he calls "Naturally Unnatural". Art itself, has risen from this fundamental need to create and invent. Scott is curious about his own insatiable thirst for knowledge, as he pulls ideas from a multitude of fields such as anthropology, quantum physics, philosophy and of course theology. One major theme in this work is of the questioning of the impact man has had upon the earth and how this changes human nature itself. Scott has played off Jean Paul Sartre's quote "man makes himself" and ponders the complexity of such a simplistic idea in the modern world. As with the scientific process Scott's approach is direct and intentional, to question and arrive at a result only to have more questions.
