Reflect: Bigert & Bergström

Reflect: Bigert & Bergström

Solar Egg by Bigert & Bergström for Riksbyggen – a five-meter-tall golden egg sculpture and functional sauna – is taking residence in ASI’s outdoor courtyard this spring.

Solar Egg was created by the Swedish art duo Bigert & Bergström, two of Sweden’s most notable international climate-inspired artists, for the Swedish housing developer Riksbyggen. It stands as a symbol of new beginnings in Kiruna, a town in northern Sweden currently undergoing a physical move to make way for an iron ore mine.

The installation literally and figuratively reflects its surroundings and acts as a chamber for the exchange of ideas. In the center of the egg is a wood-fired, heart-shaped sauna stove made of iron and stone, and ASI visitors will be able to book sauna appointments during the exhibition period.

Reflect: Bigert & Bergström opens on Wednesday, March 6, with “Eggstravaganza.” The artists will be in attendance to help fire the first sauna and talk about their work. Opening Info

Admission info: The exhibit is open to the public and included in museum admission. Sauna sessions can be booked separately for $30 for members of ASI and $35 for non-members.
