"My current body of work depicts the layering of influences that constitutes each individual: information exists in the body and brain like transparent, membranous scrims. Curtains of image and sound overlap one another. In my work the process of remembering is likened to peeling back the scrims one by one. In each piece images perch in an arena of colliding connections, each part essential to the whole."

Bio:
Oakley Tapola (b. Chicago, IL, 1987) received her BFA in Painting from the University of Minnesota (TC Campus) in 2009. She recently completed an exhibition in Turku, Finland as part of a two-month residency at Titanik Gallery. Alongside her active painting practice she is the co-creator of WOPOZI, a nationally distributed arts publication. She also produces and distributes various self-published chapbooks throughout the year.
