Lisa Nankivil - Paintings and New Media Prints

Traffic Zone Presents work by artists Lisa Nankivil opening Sept 9th

Traffic Zone Gallery presents Lisa Nankivil: Paintings and New Media Prints, a radiant selection of traditionally created oil paintings, and archival pigment prints composed on an iPad. Nankivil’s abstract paintings feature richly hued bands of color and luminous intervals of black and white. The paintings, with their ambiguous spaces and surface texture, engage the viewer from a distance. The smaller, intricate digital prints invite closer contemplation of their architecture. Riffing on her signature stripes as well as paint as a subject, Nankivil documents and uploads images of her painted marks, layering them with original photography, and drawing. On how it feels to work digitally after so many years in front of a 12 ft. wall easel, Nankivil laughingly admits, “In a perfect world the iPad would be at least eight feet wide.”
