Humor Me

Humor Me

Group exhibition taking a serious look at humor in art.

You know the stereotype: The high-brow sophisticate in a stuffy suit holding a monocle up to a piece of art while discussing the serious "meaning of life" message behind the work. It is an interesting thing to look at how seriously the art world takes itself, sometimes too seriously.

To combat this stereotype, and to address the critique that the art world takes itself too seriously, Gallery 427 presents 5 artists who consistently employ humor as an overt, rather than a subtle or veiled strategy in their work.

By using humor, these artists can break down a viewer's resistance, perform an end-run around reason, and create a receptive climate for the delivery of impassioned, provocative, or subversive messages.
