Heliotuduc : Isa Newby Gagarin

Solo Exhibition by artist Isa Newby Gagarin

The White Page gallery presents Heliotuduc, a solo exhibition by Isa Newby Gagarin. In this new body of work, Gagarin draws personal connections between heliotropism, solar eclipses, and forgeries of Anatolian rugs through painting and mixed media. Vibrant spectrums of color are overlaid on selected imagery from Gagarin’s research process. Contrasting this brightly colored series are the artist’s “solar exposures,” an ongoing exploration of newsprint as a photosensitive material. Accompanying the exhibition is an assembled text which includes excerpts from Gagarin’s October 2015 conversation with Shadia Habbal, solar physicist and faculty chair at the Institute for Astronomy at University of Hawai’i.
