Gathering Light

Gathering Light

Exhibition featuring artist Ann Ginsburgh

IC: 'Sicily,' black and white infrared photograph by Ann Ginsburgh Hofkin

As a photographer Ann Ginsburgh Hofkin searches for visual metaphors in the landscapes she photographs. She uses black and white infrared film because it captures both the visible spectrum and the infrared light that lies beyond what the human eye can comprehend. This medium also accentuates the contrast between light and shadow, enhancing a sense of the obscure and mysterious, therefore underscoring our limited perception. The resulting images are strikingly beautiful.

“I’m obsessed with collecting layers of visual input that inform me, creating an array of spiritual and metaphysical possibilities for contemplation”
