The Catherine G. Murphy Gallery at St. Catherine University is pleased to announce two new exhibitions opening April 14.
West Gallery:
Dissonance and Repair
New paintings by Barbara Kreft and Kimberly Benson
Gallery Talk: May 3, 2 p.m.
In Dissonance and Repair, painters Barbara Kreft and Kimberly Benson explore abstraction through similar channels, investigating ideas such as ideal beauty and cultural representations of nature. Their complex compositions – richly layered, boldly gestural and pulsing with color – reveal their influences upon one another, yet their approaches to painting are completely different. As they explain in their artist statement, “Kreft works to unify a painting into a harmonious assemblage – a delicate process of repair – while Benson searches for a greater level of visual dissonance, a space where energies and matter are allowed to run unfettered.”
East Gallery:
Dismantling Mindset
Senior Juried Exhibition
Artists: Ashley Tyler Alex, Sarah Borgen, Breanna D. Goudeau, Hannah Haughey, Teresa R. Widiger
Dismantling Mindset showcases the talent of graduating studio art majors at St. Catherine University. Through a variety of medium and imagery, this show delves into subject matter that explores alternative perspectives and attempts to dismantle assumptions made by the viewers.
