Art Lending Library Fall Lending Event

Art Lending Library Fall Lending Event

The Minneapolis Art Lending Library (MALL) hosts their Fall lending hours October 21st at Bryant Square Recreation Center

The Minneapolis Art Lending Library (MALL) will be hosting its next lending hours at Bryant Square Recreation Center on October 21st, 2016 from 5-8 pm. Patrons are invited to browse our collection of over 100 original works of art then choose one to take home for a period of three months.

During this lending event  patrons will have the opportunity to participate in "Create and Advocate" a project by artist and writer, Camille Erickson. This project, in part sponsored by Minnesota Citizens for the Arts (MCA), seeks to amplify the opinions of individuals in districts across Minnesota by using art to communicate with state legislators. By distributing hand screen printed postcards, Camille asks participants to respond to the prompt, “I need art in my community because…” These postcards will then be hand delivered to constituents’ representatives at the State Capitol on Arts Advocacy Day in 2017. The postcards enable participants to communicate directly to legislators in a fun and expressive way. During the event patrons will be invited to work with Camille to screen print, write, and draw their own post cards to be distributed during Arts Advocacy Day. Camille will also be speaking directly to patrons about the impact of art in our homes, neighborhoods, and cities. By participating, patrons are involved in advocating to strengthen the funding and structures that equitably support community art initiatives.

Established in 2013, the MALL is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to providing exposure for artists, building support for the arts, and sharing the joy of art with all members of our community through the free lending of artwork. More broadly, we are aiming to create an attitude change in the Twin Cities in terms of art ownership. The hope is that once patrons experience living with art in their homes they will be more likely to purchase art in the future. The collection includes over 90 different paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, ceramics, and sculptures by local and national artists. Lending events are an exciting chance to browse a compelling selection of original artworks and an opportunity to support the arts community.
