A New Twist on the Old Testament [Part III]

Innovative arts collective Blockfort Studio presents new work from Minneapolis painter Samuel Robertson in their inaugural show

On Saturday, November 19, Blockfort will open its doors to the public for their inaugural art event featuring a large body of unique work from established local artist Samuel Robertson.

A New Twist on The Old Testament is an ongoing project Robertson began in November of 2014 after he discovered how the Old Testament is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for his psychedelic paintings. Beginning with the book of Genesis, Robertson has been illustrating passages he finds moving or intriguing, resulting in a body of surreal and sometimes grotesque interpretations.

A New Twist on the Old Testament has been displayed previously at Plot Gallery and The Heart of the Beast Theater.  This will be the third exhibition of the series showcasing his work from books 11-15 (Kings 1 and 2, Chronicles 1 and 2, and Ezra.)  By the end of 2017, Robertson hopes to have finished illustrating over 300 pieces to be published alongside the complete text in a bold new edition of the King James’ Old Testament.

The opening reception will be followed by musical performances by local bands, What Tyrants, Carnivore Bones, Bollywood, and DJ Matt Linden of Foraged Artifacts allowing visitors to experience the incredible practice and studio space Blockfort has to offer its members.

After the opening the show will run through January 22nd and can be viewed by appointment only.
